be reached by dirt road from Arusha through the Serengeti National
Park or from Mwanza or Kenya on tarmac roads. The Lodge is on a 7 to
8 hour drive from Nairobi. You can fly from Arusha, to the Tanzania
National Parks airstrip, which is 1 to 1,5 hours from the Lodge, or
to Mwanza International Airport, which is 2,5 hours. Mwanza Airport
also has connections to Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Nairobi, Kampala
and Kigali. Transfers can be arranged.
Climate and rainfall Lake Victoria lies 1133 meter (3,718
feet) above sea level. It is generally sunny (around 30 degrees C).
The evenings and nights are mild (min. 17 degrees C). In the
afternoon a cool breeze from the lake picks up and continues into
the evening. The rainy season is from November to May, with the
short rains in November/December and the long rains in April/May.
The Lodge is open all year round.
Personal care
MalariaBefore you embark on your journey, consult your
doctor for advice on vaccinations and malaria prevention. Every
possible precaution is taken to safeguard your stay. The drainage
works have substantially reduced the mosquitoes, but malaria still
remains a threat here, as in most of the wildlife areas and at the
coast.
Energency arrangementsThere are two reasonable hospitals in
the vicinity (respectively 17 km and 35 km), and through
(mobile and landline)telephone/fax or E-mail and SW-radio, the Flying Doctors (AMREF) can be
reached, in the event of medical emergencies. A temporary membership
is recommended. |
